Training
The turbine and g
enerator are complex pieces of precision rotating equipment, and TGM, through years of experience, has worked on equipment made by all major manufacturers. Though there are similarities between units, there are also many differences in design and construction. It takes years to become proficient in our art. So, training is a constant process in TGM.
We have several on-going initiatives to support our employees’ skill development:
- Project Seminars
- Twice a year, between outage peaks, the field teams meet for training in these areas:
- Project management
- Safety
- Technical skills
- Team building
- Quality system
- Twice a year, between outage peaks, the field teams meet for training in these areas:
- A cooperative relationship with a local technical school for a Florida state-approved turbine generator maintenance mechanic certification program; TGM provides equipment, instruction, and financial support
- Specialty training:
- Balancing and vibration analysis
- Generator testing and inspection
- Turbine controls and operation
It all comes together on the job and, through the TGM project team concept, the Foreman are mentors to Turbine Mechanics. We also purposely integrate senior and younger mechanics so that proficiencies are passed on through a strong peer system.
