TGM Performs Major Maintenance Project at Covanta Mid-Connecticut, Inc.

Cape Coral, Florida – In January of 2006, Turbine Generator Maintenance, Inc. (TGM) completed a major overhaul on the 45MW GE steam turbine generator set at Covanta Mid-Connecticut, Inc.’s South Meadows Station (which is owned by the Connecticut Resource Recovery Authority and operated by Covanta). This was a contract maintenance project in which TGM provided management and technical responsibility, as well as labor, supervision, and tooling for the inspection of the high pressure turbine, low pressure turbine, generator, valve inspections and miscellaneous steam and oil inspections. The job was completed in twenty days on two twelve hour shifts.

Prior to and during the outage, project review meetings were conducted by TGM staff both internally and with Covanta Mid-Connecticut personnel in order to properly address all outage logistics, contingency items and other concerns. These meetings proved to be invaluable in identifying areas that could affect outage performance and in facilitating prompt decision-making regarding recommended repairs.

The facility’s Plant Manager, Paul Sibiga, stated “The unit is now running better than it ever has...TGM’s Team was responsive to all needs. It made my job easier knowing that I did not have to worry about what was going on with the turbine generator. An overall wonderful experience. I look forward to the next one.”
